Remarkable Easter Sermon
There was once a man who was very good at making toys. He made a beautiful yacht toy. The yacht toy was so realistic that he wanted to check if it will work in the sea. He took the toy to the sea and started playing with it. Suddenly there was a huge wave, and the toy got lost in the sea. The man searched everywhere but couldn’t find it. After a long search, the man went back home disappointed.
After a few days, when he went shopping he was delighted to see the toy yacht in a shop. He immediately approached the owner of the shop and claimed the toy. The owner of the store refused to give the toy to him. The man tried to prove that the toy was his and showed him the mark he had made on the toy. Not wanting to part from his lovely creation, he was willing to pay for his toy. He was very happy that the toy was back in his arms.
How happy we should be that our Creator, who gave us His breath as a seal gave His life on the cross and paid the price to redeem you and me from the lost and take us back in His arms and provide us everlasting life. Doesn’t this require celebrations? Certainly yes. Let’s see a few reasons to celebrate. The blessings of the Lord are countless, and only a few are mentioned here.
We Have Been Reconciled with Our Creator
The Bible says in Colossians 1 21,22 that “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation”. This alienation from our Creator happened soon after humans were created when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Our loving God sent His only Son to die on the cross so that we may reconcile with Him.
How wonderful it is to be close to the Almighty God. We now can pray to our Heavenly Father as our Savior taught us. We had previously lost the right that Adam and Eve had “there spoke to God every day”; this right was lost due to disobedience and for generations, we could not directly approach God.
As we read in Ephesians 2: 13, “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” Yes, we were far from God but now we can indeed pray to God in confidence for the Bible says “in Ephesians 3:12 “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence”. What a blessing it is to be back as sons and daughters of our creator. As we read in 2 Corinthians 6:18, “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty.”
Death Has Lost Its Power
The Bible says in Genesis 3: 19 that “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”
What happens after death is a mystery but the Bible tells us a few things which we will see to understand the importance of Christ’s resurrection. We see that God says to Moses in Deuteronomy 31: 16 “And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors”. We now understand that all the ancestors are resting in a place and Moses will join with them.
In the parable of “Lazarus and the rich man” Jesus mentions Hades and Abraham’s lap in Luke 16: 22,23 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side”. Hades is where the souls are tormented and Abraham’s lap is where the souls are comforted.
And again in 1 Peter 3: 19-20 we see that Jesus preached to the spirits of people who had died long ago “He went and proclaimed to the imprisoned spirits—to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.”
The Bible clearly says in 1 Corinthians 15: 20,21 that Jesus is the first to be resurrected. “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead.” So we know that through Christ and only through Christ we will be resurrected and enter eternal life. Jesus conquered death.
God Has Revealed Himself to Godless People
People lost contact with their God and started worshiping man-made images thinking that those will save them. Especially the non-Israelites could not reach God and Jesus says in Matthew 15: 26 “He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” However, we see our Redeemer’s mercy and compassion in healing her daughter when He saw the faith she had. The woman also exhibited humility.
But things change after His resurrection. The non-Israelites were no longer far from God for He says in Mark 16: 15 “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” By His resurrection, he had united even the non-Israelites to God. So now the people who earlier did not know God have the right to receive the good news of the gospel and become God’s children through faith.
Jesus Christ Possess the Keys to Heaven and Hell
Jesus is the way to enter God’s kingdom. For He says in John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” So we know that confessing our sins and accepting Christ is the only way to inherit God’s kingdom.
Jesus suffered on the cross to give us forgiveness of sins. He shed his innocent precious blood and has provided us salvation. As mentioned in Isaiah 53:11 “By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many” the knowledge Jesus can save us from God’s wrath and give us forgiveness of sins.
The name of Jesus is above all names and God has exalted him as the Bible says in Philippians 2: 9-11 says “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”
Jesus says in Revelation 1:18 “ I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” He has gained power over all the things and has the authority to decide who will receive His salvation.
Let us surrender to Him with all our hearts that He may take us into His kingdom and give us everlasting life.
To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1: 5,6.
