When we fast, we should humble ourselves before the Lord and promote righteousness and justice. We should not be focusing on what we can get through our fasting but rather on the GIVER, whose love transcends all space and time.

The real meaning of Lent is not boasting of one’s sacrifice or trying to earn God’s favor but gaining a deeper intimacy with the Lord by focusing on His word and ministering to Him. The meaning of Lent will be expressed outwardly if we change our behavior that is pleasing to God, and show His love toward others. Lent directs us to the hope of the Resurrection and the day when every tear will be dried.
