This hymn was first published by Heinrich August Hoffmann von Fallersleben and Ernst Friedrich Richter in the district of Glaz in Silesia in 1842. It was translated from German to English by Joseph August Seiss in 1873. This old Crusaders’ Hymn expresses love and praise for Christ, the King of creation, and appreciates Him as the savior of man. It also praises Him as the “ruler of all nations” reflecting his divine sovereignty over every living being.
